How Much Does Asphalt Paving Cost?
Why are some paving contractors bids more expensive than others?

Driveway and Parking lot paving prices can vary widely from contractor to contractor and from state
to state. There are a number of factors for an asphalt paving contractor to consider when trying to
estimate the cost of your paving project. Here is a small list of some basics we need to know before
we can calculate your asphalt paving quote. How many square feet the project area is. How far is the
travel to our material suppliers. How much material needs to be removed and hauled away. How long
will it take to complete the job.

Every asphalt paving project is different! Each one has its own special
circumstances to be considered.

For example, sub-base preparation. How much of the existing base is usable or does the area require
complete base overhaul. Another is difficulty. Some driveways are very steep or have a tight turning
radius. And some parking lots ave very busy with customer traffic. These obstacles will take up more
time to tackle. These are some reason there can not be a one price fits all mentality. Every paving
project has its own unique circumstances to take into account when preparing bids.

There are many factors in regards to why some paving contractors are more or less expensive than
others. A few of the biggest differences are experience, honesty, quality workmanship and the
amount and procedures for applying paving materials. Some paving contractors can make asphalt
look good for a short time but not all can keep them looking good for a long time. Other factors for
the cost variances between contractors is overhead costs. For example, labor, equipment, fuel costs,
insurances, taxes, amount of materials used. All paving contractors should have these items to
contend with. I say
should because some paving companies don't play by the rules.

So why are some bids way off? Here are a couple of reason I know are true. This is where I'm going
to get a little personal about this topic. Some paving contractors don't pay their work crew "on the
books" if at all (I could name a handful of local companies that don't but of course I will not). There
are no taxes taken out of the employees pay, no employee or employer taxes contributing to Social
Security, Medicaid or Unemployment. Now I know some that are reading this are thinking...Who are
they, I probably can get a lower price. Truth be told, you may be able to pay less, but that's exactly
what you'll get. LESS.

An experienced crew is one of the most important parts to providing you with the
best asphalt paving job possible.

We want to keep our employees forever. That will only ensure that our company will stand above the
competition and keep us growing strong. The longer our employees stay with us, the more they will
get accustomed to our paving procedures. And with time, our paving crew has now become a team. A
team that works hard towards our company goal of customer satisfaction. And that's a major part of
what will give you the best job. Imagine being and employee getting paid cash "off the books". Now
that employee may enjoy not paying big taxes for a minute, but when Winter comes and they have
no job and no money is coming back from Uncle Sam and unemployment can't help because there is
no records of legit work, I'm sure you wouldn't like that cash too much anymore. How could they
establish any kind of work history or credit. How would they be able to buy a house with no proof of
a paycheck. How could they contribute to society. I don't know, but it's sure something I am not
interested being part of. I want a team of individuals that are going to keep moving forward,
bettering themselves, becoming the next leaders in our company. Our team is giving back to society
the American way. Through hard work and dedication.

Our team knows there is a long term future with Daly Paving Company!

Another reason why asphalt paving contractors will vary in price is equipment. Frequently updated
quality machines are expensive, but they are a "must have" to produce quality paving results. Like
most people choose a contractor we choose our equipment. We look for experience, value and
performance. We could have bought less expensive equipment and kept our overhead slightly lower
and therefore the end users costs for paving lower, but how would that really help our customers
save money. It wouldn't. Lower quality equipment can not produce high quality results.

Our paving machines (Leeboy's) give you a better quality job. How? One thing Leeboy paving
machines have over other machines besides their time tested ability, is their
screed. This is the part
of the machine the levels, smooths and provides the initial compaction of the asphalt. This is what
makes the difference in both looks and quality (However, keep in mind it takes a skilled operator to
runs this equipment properly). Leeboy's have a heavier heated screed that also vibrates. This
vibration affords more initial compaction of the asphalt therefore placing more asphalt per square foot
than most other machines. No matter if its an 8 foot or a 15 foot wide lane. The Legend Leeboy
screed system smooths the asphalt much nicer than others leaving an even consistent finish across
the whole strip. So our cost may be a bit higher than some other CT or MA asphalt paving
contractors because we are using quality paving equipment and we pay all of our employees on the
books and contribute to society the American way. But this is really all for you, our customer. You've
worked hard for your money and we aren't going to waste it. So, let me ask you this question... Are
you willing to pay a little more of your hard earned money for a better looking, longer lasting asphalt
paving job? Please read this script below then answer that question.

Remind your Board what John Ruskin (1819 – 1900) once said of low bidders: “It's unwise
to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little
money, that is all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing
you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of
business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot – it can't be done. If you deal
with the lowest bidder it is well to add something for the risk you run. And if you do that,
you will have enough to pay for something better.”
